Metaverse Education: The Hong Kong University Plans to Inaugurate Mixed Reality Classroom in Metaverse.

The metaverse has been a hot topic in the Crypto space for some time. While others doubt its dominance and influence on human activity. Members of the Hong Kong University actually believe that they can do a lot more with the metaverse by building MetaHKUST.

The institution plans to create a virtual learning environment that connects the different campuses in Hong Kong and Guangzhou.

Using Metaverse in Hong Kong University

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has announced that the launch party of a virtual reality classroom over on the Metaverse will be on September 1.  

The project will mark the commencement of the University’s plan to promote immersive learning by building a virtual campus in the Metaverse, which is to be called MetaHKUST. 

Pan Hui, the chair professor of computational media and arts at the Guangzhou campus, said that: 

“A lot of guests might be overseas and can’t attend [the launching], so we will host it in the metaverse.” 

The institution plans to create a learning environment that virtually bridges the gap between the two campuses in Hong Kong and Guangzhou by building MetaHKUST.

The goal of MetaHKUST is to help the students overcome geographical constraints when attending classes. 

While universities and companies across the globe moved over to products like Zoom and Google meet for conducting online classes during the COVID-19 pandemic, Pan Hui believes that learning in the Metaverse is a better option for students because it promotes a greater level of interaction, in addition, Pan Hui said: 

“Through virtual reality, you can feel as if you’re there. How you interact with students around you will increase your learning outcome.” 

Regardless of the doubt that surrounds the technology, the vice president for institutional advancement at HKUST, Wang Yang said the Metaverse was “here to stay.”

More Use Cases for Metaverse

The Metaverse has a lot to offer in terms of use cases. The second Minister of Law in Singapore added that technology will be of immense usefulness in legal marriage proceedings, court case disputes and government services. 

The Minister made this statement by highlighting instances when intimate events such as the solemnization of marriages were being held at the Metaverse, by saying:

“It would not be unthinkable that, besides registration of marriages, other government services can soon be accessed online via the Metaverse.”

The Minister also added that the Metaverse would not preclude traditional hearings from taking place offline. He further suggested an “integrated platform” that could fast-track the dispute resolution process. He pointed out that “there can always be a hybrid element.” 

In lieu of all this, it shows that virtual reality is gaining immense attention and acceptance. Soon more VCs and more Institutional investors will start diving into the industry.  

So, if you manage a small crypto portfolio, it is best you find a way to include metaverse projects because they will soon become the next big thing.
